Bay Breeze

I posted a few pictures just now of my floating home "Spyke" mainly because a lot of people know I live aboard year round but few can picture it in their minds. For the past 8 years I've lived on Spyke year round in Northern Michigan. This winter has been a harsh one but the circulators keep the ice from closing in around the hull. Down below it's pretty cozy with the help of a coal-burning heater. Can't imagine why more people don't live on their boats all year! Anybody else out there living aboard right now or entertaining the idea? More photos coming...

Hey Capt.Don,
I livedabord in Maine. We had the circulators too. We also had the boat shrink wrapped. That was intrusting. The last winter we lived in Maine they didnt turn on the circulators because the marina said it has been over 20 years since the harbor froze. They didnt think we would need them. Well can ya quess what happened that winter....yup the harbor froze right up! A little skiff had to come in at low tide and bust up ice so when tide went up it would pull it out. We moved to the virgin islands that June! I am glad I can say I did it but I really dont miss it all that much :0)

Hey, Dan!

Hope you're "weathering" the recent dips in temps alright. Fortunately, it looks like we have some nicer numbers coming soon.

Plan to see you and the gang this coming spring. After we all thaw out, of course!

Cheers,
Nick & Kelley
