So, Dave, how did Strictly Sail Chi-town go? We weren't able to make it this year and, considering the weather, it was probably a good thing!

I think about this daily... actually hourly... It may be the Gunboat 66 Catamaran but the traditional side of me says "go monohull, go Saga or Outbound". I'm a torn, tormented guy. Can I have more time to think about that before you give me the blank check?

This will take some editing - I'll get back to you on that...
First sailing experience
Uncle Tom's ferro-cement sloop out of Detroit. The mast came down in a high wind and "bounced off the deck". No other damage. I guess it pays to have a cement hull boat known as the "floating sidewalk".

Last boats delivered...

December 4th was an pretty blustery day, but then again, pretty typical for Northern Michigan standards and not too bad of a day to deliver the last of the Bay Breeze boats to haul out. In the marina the wind indicator was reading 21-28 knots but things died down a bit after rounding the point and heading north towards Northport Bay Boatyard where a hearty c… Continue

Bay Breeze Goes to Hollywood

Six Bay Breeze boats were used this fall in the filming of "A Year in Mooring" starring Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama, Glory Road, and a bunch more). The films producers selected the boats primarily to be used in the background while docked at the Bower’s Harbor Yacht Club Marina. The boats selected were West Wind, Midnight Magic, Wild Goose, Windfall, Magic Flute and Betty Ann. “Magic Flute” can be seen sailing off into the sunset in one scene and “Wild Goose” is in the lighted boat parade sce… Continue

Exploring the Manitou Islands

The conditions were too perfect for a long anticipated venture out to the Manitou Islands located about 10 miles off Northern Michigan's west coast (the town of Leland). To get there by sailboat would require a long commitment since our sailboat wasn't near the islands. So on an unusually calm and sunny day, we launched the "work boat", a 20' Robalo… Continue

Annapolis Boat Show

If its possible to overdose on boat browsing, the Annapolis Boat Show is the place that will happen. It was cool to see the highest of the high end boats and all the amazing innovations that go with the price tags but my favorites are the boats that appeal to the practical side of me. But that is probably why I have owned mostly station wagons my whole life.… Continue

What year is it anyway?

It's late September and I'm finally catching my breath after another fast-paced season. Actually, this is the first chance I've had in months to see what the rest of the Community has been up to! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for contributing and keep the momentum rolling! This is a great time of year with still plenty of good sailing on the horizon. And I'm sure the fall colors will not be disappointing when seen from under sail as well. I'm really looking forward to some brisk fall sai… Continue
